In Memoriam: Raymond Bobak (1954-2012)

It is with deepest sympathy we announce the passing of friend, coach and fellow referee Ray Bobak. Ray died suddenly in a tragic accident at his home on Christmas Day.raybobak

Ray has been a part of the Pittsburgh volleyball community for over 20 years. He was the head coach at Duquesne University from 1992-1994 after serving previously as an  assistant. He had also coached at Bishop Leonard grade school and Seton-LaSalle High School leading the Rebels to the WPIAL title in 2007. Ray also initiated and directed the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocesan volleyball league and championships. 

In 2004 Ray created “Pittsburgh 3-Rivers” Volleyball Club from a satellite club known as Renaissance Central. He served as director and president until retiring in 2007. 

Ray was also a retired trainman/conductor for Union Railroad.

His impact has been felt on volleyball in the Pittsburgh area and his influence has helped shape many players and coaches in the region. Ray’s legacy will live on and he will be missed by many. Our sympathies and condolances are with his family and friends.
